On July 11, 2024, Head of the Department of Plant Light Physiology and Bioproductivity of Agroecosystems of the Agrophysical Research Institute Panova Gayane Gennadievna delivered a lecture-report in the Polar Living Room of the Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic as the scientific director of the project on growing agricultural plants at the Antarctic station Vostok. The project has been successfully implemented for 4.5 years thanks to the combined efforts and cooperation of three institutes: the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AANI), the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMBP RAS) and the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Agrophysical Research Institute" (FGBNU AFI)
Employees of the FGBNU AFI, with the active consulting participation of polar explorers of the 65-69 RAE AARI and in coordination with the AARI and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, created and presented at the exhibition a model of “Phytotechnical complexes-greenhouses 1 and 2 with plants indoors at the Antarctic Vostok station”, as well as publications of research results from 2020 until 2024 on testing the specified plant growing systems using the example of various leaf and leafy vegetable crops.

Scientists of the Russian Antarctic Expedition of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute together with colleagues from the Agrophysical Research Institute and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences have successfully completed an experiment on growing vegetables at the Vostok Antarctic station. As a result, it was possible to establish that in two greenhouses of different types using groundless technology "panoponics" for 1 sq. a meter of area per year can grow up to 100 kg of cucumbers, up to 149 kg of cabbage and many other leafy and leaf-stemmed vegetable crops, as well as up to 29 kg of tomatoes and up to 11 kg of sweet pepper. The possibility of multi-level placement of phytotechnological complexes (FTC) allows you to multiply the yield.
