15 july 2026 was the 80th anniversary of Arkhipov Mikhail Vadimovich's birth., He's renowned as Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor and principal researcher of the plant biophysics section of the ecological physiology and biophysics lab in the plant photophysiology and ecosystemic bioproductivity department of the Agrophysical Research Institute. Graduated from Leningrad M.I.Kalinin Order of Lenin Polytechnic Institute in 1970, Mikhail Vadimovich started his scientific activity in the Institute, where he keeps working, having progressed from a junior researcher to a principal researcher.
M.V. Arkhipov is the founder and director of the microfocus radiography of plants research program. He is actively involved in the development of a new generation of equipment and technology for the rapid mass assessment of hidden defects in production lots of food, feed, and seed grain. His cytospectrophotometric and radiographic methods for assessing seed biodiversity, their potential productivity, and resistance to physical factors are used by the State Seed Inspectorate of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian Research Institute for Storage Problems of the Federal Agency for State Reserves (Rosrezerv), including the strategic grain reserves within the Federal Agency for State Reserves, the Anapa Zonal Station of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, JSC Sortsemovoshch, and other biological and agronomic research and educational institutions, including those abroad (in Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, China, and Cuba).
M.V. Arkhipov served as the Academic Secretary of the Dissertation Council of the Agrophysical Research Institute for over 10 years. He is also a member of the Dissertation Council of the Agrophysical Institute and the Chairman of the State Attestation Commission at A.S. Pushkin Leningrad State University.
Mikhail Vadimovich's research results have been published in 325 publications, including nine monographs, nine patents, copyright certificates, and several methodological recommendations. Under his supervision, seven dissertations for candidate and doctoral degrees were defended, and a scientific school was established.
M.V. Arkhipov has received a number of departmental awards. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, dated August 6, 2025, Mikhail Vadimovich Arkhipov was awarded the title of "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation." St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov presented him with this award at a ceremony in Smolny on December 12, 2025. The ceremonies concluded with a midday shot from the cannon of the Gosudarev Bastion of the Petropavlovskaya Fortress, which M.V. Arkhipov fired on July 15, 2026—the day of his 80th anniversary.
