Organized in January 2003, its creator is Dr. M. M. Mikhailenko, head of the laboratory to the present. The laboratory is a structural unit of the Agrophysical Institute, which has an informational and cybernetic focus.

The main directions of its activities are:

- development of new information technologies for automated control systems for agricultural management objects;

- development of the theory of agricultural technology management in precision farming systems;

- development of scientific and methodological foundations for the use of remote sensing data of the Earth to assess the state of crops and soil environment.

For a relatively short period of its existence, the following scientific products have been created in the laboratory in the main areas of activity:

  • 3 monographs were published on the theoretical foundations of precision farming, precision animal husbandry and the management of agricultural technologies;
  • 124 articles published in scientific journals;
  • took part in 36 scientific conferences;
  • 9 patents for inventions in the field of precision farming were obtained;
  • 10 certificates of registration of a computer program were received;
  • 5 grants of the RFBR were received.

Of the obtained scientific products, the most significant for modern science and practice are:

  • A new theory of agricultural technology management, which includes the concept of management, which provides for three hierarchical levels of management: strategic, programmatic and real-time; each of the levels includes new mathematical models and control algorithms;
  • a new scientific and methodological basis for assessing the parameters of crops of crops and soil environment based on a combination of ground measurements and remote sensing data of the Earth;
  • a new concept and theory of management of the state of health of lactating cows, aimed at a significant increase in the period of economic use of animals;
  • New models and automation algorithms for the breeding process in crop production, which allow optimizing the choice of parental pairs for offspring with desired productive properties;
  • new unique methods and devices for their implementation, reflecting a new theory of agricultural technology management.

Over the past 6 years, the laboratory has been actively cooperating with leading scientific institutions of the Russian Federation, such as the St. Petersburg Institute of Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS), the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS), as well as the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Growing (KazNIIZiR )

Leading specialists of the laboratory are:

  • Mikhailenko Ilya Mikhailovich, Doctor of Technical Sciences, scientific specialization - mathematical modeling, numerical methods and program complexes;
  • Timoshin Valery Nikolaevich, candidate of technical sciences, scientific specialization - subject programming, numerical methods and program complexes;
  • Kurashvili Andrey Evgenievich, scientific specialization - system programming, databases, remote sensing of the Earth.
